Dad's Camera

I've had Dad's camera bag in my office unopened for a while but I decided it was time to open it and see what exactly he carried around with him on all the holidays and days out. For those unaware, Dad passed on a year and a half ago and he was a very keen and fantastic photographer. I felt a little pang of sadness when opening the very tidy and well kept Olympus case, knowing that he was the one to have packed it all away and thus it was as he had left it last.

An Olympus OM10 film camera with an unfinished film. Only 10 shots taken. Good grief I remember what it was like trying to restrict the number of photos taken because you only had a certain number of shots on the film. 24 or 36 usually. Then when you'd taken the last one you always saw another brilliant opportunity for a photo but no more film.... Goodness I'd really struggle when I think about the hundreds of images I take just in an hour's session!

In the lid pocket I found a One Pence piece. Would love to know the story behind that, (although Dad was never superstitious to my knowledge!) and a small bit of paper with a note of what batteries to use for his flash. Some filters, a lens hood, a shutter release cable, (for when you didn't want camera shake) 135mm zoom, 16-50mm kit lens, 28mm wide angle - all wrapped up in amongst some of Dad's old white handkerchiefs for protection!

Mum didn't know what to do with the case so she gave it to me. I think I'll just hold onto it as it's a lovely memory of my dad and his fondness for photography.
